    MR. MONEYBAGS IN A PINCH
    New Year's 1921
If you were Jewish and rich you were considered fair game in post-WW1 Austria and Germany, as this rare piece of Notgeld currency dated 1/15/1921 illustrates all too well.
The bill features Krampus (a Germanic Devil with horns and one cloven foot) administering the switch to a diminutive, effeminate Jewish financier chained to his side. The latter's pained expression betrays his predicament for he has been parted from his many bulging sacks of money.
Interestingly enough, the reverse features peaceful and colorful yuletide images such as an angel with a Christmas tree, and evergreen boughs festooned with candles and ornaments, which apparently did not conflict with the sentiments expressed on the obverse.
Denomination may be 40 or 80 Hellers. Scarce in any condition and RARE in the offered condition - Choice Crisp Uncirculated with narry a fold, spot, split, stain or other distraction. Collector Value: PRICELESS
