    Description

On offer is a 1923 Austria - Donaustaat 100 Kronen Lottery Overprint Banknote, P-S154b, in estimated Fine condition.
After the defeat of the Austria-Hungary in World War I, the victorious allies considered the reorganization of the Austrian territories and the creation of a new state, the Donaustaat (Danube State). The idea was dropped, but not before a series of blank banknotes was printed up for use in the never-created nation. Some of these notes, of which the present offering is one, were later repurposed as lottery tickets. This 100 Kronen note has been overprinted for entrance into the Osterreichische Klassenlotterie at the rate of 4 shillings.
